Are you nurturing your relationship?

January 2001

So, how is your relationship? A simple enough question. But when was the last time that you stopped and evaluated your most significant connection with another person: your partner. Do you spend time with your spouse or significant other? Or is that one of the things that you’ll get to when you have time. Do you talk with your partner? Do you even like your spouse?

We are all so busy that we often neglect the relationship that, ideally, will nurture us the most. Your marriage will not last if you do not take care of it. The two of you need to spend some couple time away from the children so that you can even remember why you got married in the first place. Go out on a date and try to talk about something other than the kids. This will be difficult, but it can be done.

What have you done lately for your partner that is nurturing? Cook him his favorite meal. Give her a massage. Better yet, ask your mate what would make them feel loved and then do that. Tell your spouse what makes you feel loved and ask for that.

Don’t give up on your relationship. Nurture it. It might even become everything that you need it to be.
