Giving Thanks

November 2011

Recently I was in a very bad accident on my bike. I wiped out going around a corner and hit the pavement head and shoulder first. I was knocked unconscious and was taken to the hospital. I was very lucky. Other than a few stitches and some abrasions and soreness, I am okay.

In this season of Thanksgiving, I have many things to be thankful for this year. First, for my health. This accident could have been much, much worse. However, I always wear a helmet and sunglasses. They saved me from much more serious injuries. I am thankful for good equipment.

I am also thankful for my husband who was right behind me and took such good care of me throughout the process. As did our two sons who never hesitated to put aside their wants and needs to help their battered mother. I am thankful to be surrounded by people who love me.

I am also thankful for all of the people who lived on the street where I crashed. They called 911, they got me ice and towels. And were very sweet throughout. I am thankful for people who did not hesitate to reach out to a stranger in need.

The paramedics and staff at the hospital were very kind and caring and took amazing care of me. The doctor did such a good job with the stitches, I may not even have a scar! I am thankful that our community has such well trained professionals.

The day after my accident, I called my dearest friend who came over and washed my hair and took care of me and gave me lots of love and humor. I am thankful to have such a wonderful person in my life.

So, I am sending thanks out to everyone who helped to make sure that I was okay and that I was healing. You are all very special and wonderful and truly made this Thanksgiving one in which I have so much to thankful for!!
