Waiting for the Other Shoe to Drop

April 2002

Everyone is familiar with the sentiment that you should never get too excited or happy, because something bad may be just around the corner. I am very confused by that thought. We never say, “I don’t want to get too sad because something good is around the corner.”

Why is it that it is okay to revel in our sadness, anger, despair, but not to revel in our joy? Something bad is always around the corner, but so is something good. Life is filled with positives and negatives, happiness and sadness. It is how we deal with it that is important.

So, take a moment and appreciate all the good in your life. You are not jinxing anything. Trust me, life will always present you with new challenges. So enjoy what you have today.
