Define Yourself

Who are you? Sometimes that can be a simple question. I am a mom or dad. I am a spouse. Sometimes it can get complicated. Here is where it can get confusing: whose definition are you using? Yours or someone else’s?

Do you define yourself with certain characteristics? I am funny. I am loveable and loving. What do you do when someone says that they never get your jokes? Or that they do not feel loved by you? The first step is check it out. Is there something for to learn here?

But the bottom-line, is that you get to define yourself. Your definition. You are not required to take on as truth how anyone else sees you. Everyone has their filters that they see through. No one is truly objective. If you remind someone of their fourth-grade bully, they will not see you as a loving person. No matter how loving you might actually be.

What is your truth? What do you know about yourself? If you tell jokes that are funny to you, then you define yourself as funny. Period. End of sentence. People are allowed to disagree. But no one gets to tell you who you are.
